WEST OF EDEN (for Eden Ahbez) Amid the rocks and granite pools There lived a merry band of fools Or so it would appear Mystic moments they would share The sun the moon, the sea, the air Their rhythm and their flow Would guide them high above the fray The hopeless hearts, the suits of gray Eden Ahbez he would say I may look crazy but it's they Who are the crazy ones These streets are lined with broken dreams Haunted looks and silent screams But I have found the way To eat the fruits of Mother Earth To fill my days with joy and mirth And hope one day they'll say He guided them high above the fray The hopeless hearts, the suits of gray Eden Ahbez he would say I may look crazy but it's they Who are the crazy ones words & music by Pietra Wexstun c & p Queenie Pie Music bmi A440 Records

EDEN AHBEZ : George Alexander Aberle, known as Eden Ahbez April 15, 1908 – March 4, 1995), was an American songwriter and recording artist of the 1940s to 1960s, whose lifestyle in California was influential on the hippie movement. He was known to friends simply as Ahbe.

Lyrics: West of Eden

Amid the rocks and granite pools
There lived a merry band of fools
Or so it would appear

Mystic moments they would share
The sun the moon, the sea, the air
Their rhythm and their flow

Would guide them high above the fray
The hopeless hearts, the suits of gray
Eden Ahbez he would say
I may look crazy but it's they
Who are the crazy ones

These streets are lined with broken dreams
Haunted looks and silent screams
But I have found the way

To eat the fruits of Mother Earth
To fill my days with joy and mirth
And hope one day they'll say

He guided them high above the fray
The hopeless hearts, the suits of gray
Eden Ahbez he would say
I may look crazy but it's they
Who are the crazy ones
-------------------------------
Ahbez composed the song "Nature Boy," which became a No. 1 hit for eight weeks in 1948 for Nat "King" Cole. Living a bucolic life from at least the 1940s, he traveled in sandals and wore shoulder-length hair and beard, and white robes. He camped out below the first L in the Hollywood Sign above Los Angeles and studied Oriental mysticism. He slept outdoors with his family, ate vegetables, fruits, and nuts. He claimed to live on three dollars per week.

Lyrics: West of Eden

Amid the rocks and granite pools
There lived a merry band of fools
Or so it would appear

Mystic moments they would share
The sun the moon, the sea, the air
Their rhythm and their flow

Would guide them high above the fray
The hopeless hearts, the suits of gray
Eden Ahbez he would say
I may look crazy but it's they
Who are the crazy ones

These streets are lined with broken dreams
Haunted looks and silent screams
But I have found the way

To eat the fruits of Mother Earth
To fill my days with joy and mirth
And hope one day they'll say

He guided them high above the fray
The hopeless hearts, the suits of gray
Eden Ahbez he would say
I may look crazy but it's they
Who are the crazy ones
